Gilgal Sculpture Park

Easy to miss, and totally unheard of by most people, this is one of the weirdest places you'll go to in Utah! I went for my first time today, after hearing about it from a good friend over at Eats and Feets. It’s at 749 East and 500 South, near Trolley Square in downtown Salt Lake. :) You'll hardly notice it tucked between some houses, but you are in the right place when you see the gate that says “GILGAL” on it. :) It looks like some oddly decorated back yard, but it’s actually a real city park! :D
So, the man who carved all the stuff in this park is Thomas Battersby Child, Jr. He passed away in 1963, and seems to have been a tad bit loopy! He started working on this garden in his very own backyard and as he got older he must have just vented everything in that head of his into his sculptures.
As you first walk in, what your eyes will be drawn to most is the Joseph Smith Sphinx. For those of you who don't know, Joseph Smith is the founding prophet of the LDS/Mormon faith. Sphinx and Joseph Smith combined? Where did that idea even come from? XD This guy had some whacky ideas, that's for sure! Take a look at these other pictures,  and go visit this weird park for yourself! :)
